Uh oh y’all! I found another Facebook scam. Maybe not scam per se, but it’s certainly misleading. Buckle up, cause this one’s a doozie. Here we go…
At the time of posting, there is NO WAY to display Facebook fan page tab apps on mobile devices.
Any software or designer promising to create a mobile tab is *actually* promising to create a mobile-friendly redirect.
The “tab” created will not live on your fan page except as a (as I said) redirect to a mobile-friendly page. That means you manually link to it. It’s not going to automatically show up.
Mobile web apps are supported, but they’re not tied to the Page and need to be manually linked-to or bookmarked. The tab functionality simply doesn’t exist now.
Such a bummer, I know! Just don’t be fooled.
The method these apps use IS the best option available right now, just understand that you won’t actually see any tabs when you visit your page in a mobile device.
Here’s a solution if you don’t want to use an expensive app, but you DO want mobile users to be able to view your links. Roll up your nerd sleeves and get your hands on this handy piece of code via the CSS Tricks blog:
What you’re doing here is creating a sort of gateway to check and see if the web visitor is using a mobile device or not. If they are on a mobile device, you redirect them to a mobile-friendly page that will display properly on handhelds.
Here’s the code specifically for iPhones and iPads:
Does that make sense to everybody? I know it can seem mind-boggling at first. Hopefully the next Facebook change incorporates tabs!
